Ben Smith picks up his first point as a Maple Leaf with an assist. #TMLtalk
F Zach Hyman got his first NHL goal tonight. The score was 2-1, Leafs, with 25 seconds left in the 2nd period when Michael Grabner sprang the puck free, taking a shot at Chad Johnson through traffic.
When he couldn't finish, Hyman could, swooping in across the crease to attempt to poke the puck under Johnson's right pad, not once but two times before it made its way to the back of the net. Somewhere in there Ben Smith helped out, knocking the puck onto Hyman's stick in the mess in front of the net so that he could finish the play, getting the puck up and over a sprawled-flat Johnson.
It was not an elegant snipe, but it showed tenacity, and it was enough to put the Leafs up 3-1 for Hyman's first NHL goal. Smith picked up his first assist as a Leaf, too.
Congrats to former Wolverine @ZachHyman with his first career NHL goal tonight. #B1Ghockey
