Five NHLers are set to be charged in the 2018 Hockey Canada sexual assault case.
The Calgary Flames, for whom Dillon Dube played for, released a statement yesterday following the direction to surrender that they were not made aware of the charges againt Dube when he requested a leave of absence.
"We have now become aware of the charge of sexual assault that has been laid against Dillon Dube. We take this matter very seriously. Because the matter is now pending legal proceedings, we will have no further comment at this time. We had no knowledge of pending charges at the time Dillon’s request for a leave of absence was granted."
Do the Flames have a plausible case for deniability that Dube was under the eye of the investigation? Did only previous management know? I can't tell, but considering how full hockey is with under the table deals and gossip, I'm surprised they weren't prepared for this.
Here are some statements from the accused through their lawyers.
