Today is a good day. We’re all having good days, from now until the end of time. Sunshine and rainbows and unicorns abound, and everything is right with the world, because Auston Matthews scored his first goal as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

And he scored it on Carey Price: the first of many, we are very, very sure.
True, this isn’t technically Matthews’ first NHL goal. It’s only preseason, after all; they don’t really count when we talk meaningful statistics.
Then again, it’s also Matthews wearing a Leafs jersey scoring a goal on Price, and every single word in this sentence is beautiful because of it. As beautiful as that release, because damn, guys. Damn.
The Leafs still have a couple of exhibition games to go before the season opener in Ottawa on Oct. 12. The countdown remains on for Matthews’ first real goal.
But in the meantime, it really doesn’t get much better than this.
