Happy Tuesday, or New Year's Eve once it is evening.
There is so much hockey today. First, you'll see a combo GDT and Preview out about noon for the Leafs game that starts at 1:00 pm.
Much later, there will be the same thing for the Sceptres this evening. And Team Canada play Team USA to decide who comes first in Group A. The Team Canada game is also on CTV, if you're not a TSN subscriber but you have TV in Canada, you likely can watch. I mean, who has anything else to do tonight?
Germany will end up in the relegation game, but who their opponent will be is to be decided by the Kazakhstan - Switzerland game at noon. Winner gets into the playoffs, loser faces Germany to decide who goes down a level to make room for Denmark next year. Germany played a great game against Latvia, losing 4-3, and coming oh-so-close to a quarterfinal game.
Latvia has to play Finland this afternoon, and there's a host of scenarios where Finland comes second or ties with one of USA or Canada and the tie breaker has to be used. The Group B main event between Sweden and Czechia is winner gets first, loser second. Nice and simple.
Quarterfinals are January 2, and once all today's games are done, we'll know the times and matchups.
But first the Leafs in an afternoon contest at home.
See you then!
