The IIHF has mandated neck laceration protection (neck guards) at all levels of competition. The rule has been expanded to all senior levels after it was already in place for the U20 and U18 junior categories.
Toronto kicked off the PWHL Training Camp tournament in Utica with a big 5-1 win over Boston. Blayre Turnbull scored a hat trick as she and Sarah Nurse led the way with five shots each. Brittany Howard also got two assists. Kristen Campbell stopped 33 of 35 in the win. She allowed two goals because after regulation the team played an overtime and a shootout where she allowed one goal.
The PWHL is trialing some rule changes that have been quite popular in the past. Two-minute minor penalties will be served in their entirety, meaning teams can score multiple power play goals on one penalty. Icing not being exempted on the penalty kill will also be trialed. The first and third periods will hold the "long change" instead of the traditional second period. These rules will be reviewed and evaluated before the season starts on New Year's Day.
The Leafs spent the day at Sick Kids, promoting the children's hospital and bringing joy to the young heros undergoing treatment. They were also joined by not-Ottawa Senators owner Ryan Reynolds.
