First Period

Leafs took an early penalty of a particularly stupid kind when Ryan Reaves went out on the ice for no reason.

Mitch Marner to the rescue again:

Matt Knies failed on a tap-in, also courtesy of Marner with the slick pass.

Max Pacioretty went for a hit that was boarding in effect on Andrew Peeke, and the refs called it a five-minute penalty to review it. His feet kind of left the ice, but he did not hit him in the head or use his elbow.

The result was no penalty at all.

Charlie Coyle took a tripping call after he had the puck, which is very dumb.

Chris Tanev with a very poor decision on this hit, took a boarding call, but he did nothing else. The refs thought up a penalty differential they wanted – the hit was worse than all the extracurricular – and they made stuff up to make it happen.

That was an eventful period with no goals. When people say Boston's offence is bad, this is what they mean:

When people say Toronto's PP is bad, this is what they mean:

Second Period

Jake McCabe took an early penalty for a careless high stick. But the Bruins power play is pretty much in Toronto's league.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson with a good move on a rush against:

Nikita Zadorov took down Pacioretty and got away with knocking Pacioretty's head into the ice a couple of times.

Morgan Rielly! Power play goal.

The whole thing looked good with everyone seeming to know their role.

David Pastrnak took a penalty right off the faceoff with a careless high stick. On Jake McCabe, of course, his face hasn't hurt nearly enough this season.

Just a delightful goal from Pastrnak's besty on this power play:

That's the kind of thing that really burns the other team.

McAvoy went off for a trip on Nick Robertson. Yay! A Leafs power play!

Very tragic power play until the final 30 seconds when the second unit finally got set up and Max Domi had some very good shots.

Toronto took a penalty in the last five minutes after a turnover.

Boston with a much more dangerous power play than the Leafs usually allow. Some very poor in-tight defending from the PK units.

Four, seriously, four Leafs were whacking at Pastrnak, and the ref picked Domi to sit for two minutes with one left. This one carries over.

Score is 2-0 Leafs.

Boston spends less time at five-on-five than most teams, but this may not be working for them tonight. That said, their power play has been very dangerous two out of four times.

Third Period

Boston's power play wasn't over before Brad Marchand took a tripping call.

Toronto's nearly full two minutes had one good chance off of Marner's first zone entry.

Knies took a hooking call borne of bad decision making. There's been a lot of that leading to Leafs penalties all season.

Mark Kastelic with a nasty move on Holmberg and the Bruins were on the PK with six minutes left.

Knies makes it three power play goals.

Steven Lorentz gets the ENG to make it 4-0 Leafs.

Mitch Marner was the best player on the ice, but Nick Robertson also played his best game of the season. Anthony Stolarz was excellent and he needed to be at times.

Next game is Friday (so many days off) at home to Detroit. This is the HHOF induction game, so plan to show up late for it. See you then!
