In a game that had a conveniently even three penalties for each side, it was a power play that decided it. Chase Witala, the former Prince George Cougars player who had three games with the Marlies last year, scored the only goal of the game 53 second into the third period.

The Marlies sent a lineup of Orlando Solar Bears, hopefuls on PTOs and a few brand-new Marlies signed last spring. Also on the trip is Adam Brooks, who may or may not be a Marlie this year. The other option is an overaged year in the WHL.

But the Marlies had new goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo in net, and he got the shutout. Charlie Lindgren was also good in the net for St. John’s, and it was Zach Fucale who Witala scored on.
