Toronto Marlies vs. Syracuse Crunch: Game 4

After a close game, followed by an extremely close game, followed by a complete blowout, the Toronto Marlies will look to sweep the Syracuse Crunch out of the second round with a win tonight in Syracuse. This is all part of Kyle Dubas’ plan to not be named GM of the Maple Leafs for as long as possible.

The Lineup

Lance Hornby of a Toronto paper reported that Calle Rosen, who has been out since Game 4 of the first round series against the Utica Comets, will return to the lineup in place of Andrew Nielsen. Other than that, there doesn’t appear to be any lineup changes for the team that’s won four games in a row.

Substituting Rosen for Nielsen, the Marlies will most likely ice the following lines:

Forwards

Andreas Johnsson - Miro Aaltonen - Carl Grundstrom

Dmytro Timashov - Chris Mueller - Ben Smith

Pierre Engvall - Frederik Gauthier - Colin Greening

Mason Marchment - Adam Brooks - Trevor Moore

Defense

Martin Marincin - Justin Holl

Travis Dermott - Vincent LoVerde

Calle Rosen - Timothy Liljegren

After winning his first career AHL playoff game, Calvin Pickard will probably step aside for the now-rested Garret Sparks. Both have played very well, but there’s no question Sparks is the guy for Toronto.

Syracuse

The Crunch might be without a few of their top players. Gabriel Dumont hasn’t played a full game in this series. Olivier Archambault has been largely invisible and has shown signs that he’s been fighting injuries as well. Check out Raw Charge’s game preview for a full breakdown on the Crunch.

Matthew Peca seemed to struggle taking strides a few times last night. He missed game one of this series with an unknown injury, and is clearly still fighting through something. Archambault was probably dealing with his shoulder long before he went down last night with an apparent injury to his right side. Reid McNeil seemed to be in some visible pain Sunday night at different times, as well. Other players, like Mitchell Stephens, have been uncharacteristically quiet lately on the score sheet, leaving fans to wonder if he’s fighting through some kind of injury, too.

If the Marlies do the thing tonight, this will be their first visit to the third round since 2016 when the team comprised mostly of current Leafs lost to the Hershey Bears in the Eastern Conference Finals. Follow along on Twitter and keep an eye out for a recap shortly after.
