The AHL season started exactly three weeks ago today. The Marlies actually didn’t play that night, they opened their season the following day with a 5-2 win over the Utica Comets.

The team has changed dramatically from last year, particularly the tip goal scorers like William Nylander, who was promoted to the Maple Leafs, and Mark Arcobello, who left to play in the Swiss League and is presently tied as a top scorer in the league.

Those changes haven’t slowed the team incredible performance.

In their first eight regular season games the Marlies have won six, and lost two, one in a shootout. That’s 13 points, enough to be at the very top of the standings in the entire AHL.

Beyond points, the Marlies are also tied at the number one spot in the league for goal differential; scoring 30, and allowing only 18.

Kasperi Kapanen was named AHL player of the Week in October. He presently has 4 goals and 5 assists in 9 games.

Now the AHL has awarded two Marlies the honour of players of the month of October.

Goalie Antoine Bibeau is tied for sixth in the entire AHL with a save percentage of 0.944.

Brendan Leipsic leads the entire AHL with 13 points; 3 goals and 10 assists.

Andrew Nielsen is the number six defenceman by points with 3 goals and 4 assists, which makes sense with his booming slapshot.
