Jack Kopacka, reportedly a new member of the Marlies, is a versatile winger with three seasons of minor league experience. He is listed at 6’2” and 200 lb, and is a left-shooting winger.
Drafted by the Ducks in 2016, he was traded to the Sharks in January of this year and then immediately forwarded to the Senators. At 23 now, he’s unlikely to morph into an NHL player, but he’s a good fit on a Marlies team that needs forwards this year. Not a big scoring threat at the AHL level, although he was good in the OHL, he looks to be a depth addition who might provide some sneaky scoring ability occasionally. .
Oh, yeah, and he’s from the Soo Greyhounds, if you can believe that. Even assuming some of the current NHL roster will get cut to the minors, the Marlies are still thin on forwards, so I’m sure there’s more signings to come. Maybe a Harvard grad, just for variety?
