The Toronto Marlies today announced the signing of centre Jean Dupuy.

Funny, they dug out an old Soo Greyhounds photo for him.  He’s most recently been a member of the Rochester Americans on an AHL contract, where he’s been a thorn in the side of the Marlies.

His stats show him to be a low-scoring physical player.  He is only 22, is a left-shot and is 6’3” tall.  He may yet have potential to grow his game some.  He was never drafted, rather he was signed by the Sabres right out of junior hockey.  They did not give him a qualifying offer, so he was a UFA. This deal, however, is an AHL contract.

This morning the Marlies added some more depth in addition to the AHL players given NHL contracts yesterday.

Max Novak is a 26 year old right wing who has played with the Albany Devils since he left the NCAA. He’s not a big scorer, rather he’s another gritty support player.

The Leafs have done an excellent job so far of filling out the Marlies lineup with good players who are a little younger than the veterans most teams choose.  Expect some more AHL signings as the summer wears on.
