As the Leafs rebuild gets underway, the Marlies are sure to attract a lot of attention this season. This is especially true with the ongoing intrigue surrounding newcomers like Kasperi Kapanen and Frederik Gauthier, as well as William Nylander's imminent shift to centre.

On top of that, new head coach Sheldon Keefe and a newly implemented development system under Kyle Dubas will draw some intrigue.

For rivalry's sake, the Marlies lose the Hamilton Bulldogs to St. John's, with the OHL's Belleville Bulls taking over in Hamilton.

Today, with the release of the AHL schedule, came all the details for the Marlies upcoming campaign.

Need To Know

The Marlies will play four afternoon games at the ACC (Nov. 28, Dec. 26, Feb. 20, Mar. 26), the first and latter two of which will precede Leafs games that evening

The Marlies are finally playing out of the Eastern Conference following an AHL realignment and will see a lot more of Syracuse, Rochester, Albany, Utica, St. John's and Binghamton in the North Division (they will play each eight times)

  • The team will no longer play the Binghamton Senators in Ottawa at the Canadian Tire Centre (the Syracuse Crunch will instead)
  • The vast majority of the Marlies games will be played on weekends (as usual), with 62 games coming on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

The team will have a seven-game road trip in November and six consecutive home games at the end of February

On eight different occasions they will play three games in three nights (24 games)

    Dates To Remember

Friday, October 9th - 7PM vs Manitoba Moose
The Marlies home opener is against a returning AHL franchise, the Manitoba Moose. The Jets moved their affiliate from St. John's back home to Winnipeg this summer. Prospects now share a rink with their NHL team. The Moose are also in Toronto the following day, October 10, playing at 3:00 p.m.

    Friday, October 23rd - 7:05PM @ Rochester Americans
The first road trip of the season heads to Rochester, New York, to take on the Rochester Americans, who will be playing their 60th season this year. The Amerks are the Sabres' AHL affiliate, and at 272 kilometres away, they're the closest AHL team to the Marlies, so they could become the team's new big rival.

Friday, October 30th - 7:00PM vs Grand Rapids Griffins
The Detroit affiliate debuts new jerseys this season and are the second option for a rival. They lost their coach this summer because we took Babcock and the Wings moved Blashill up to the NHL job. New head coach Todd Nelson now has the helm. Fun fact: He was the first person to sign a deal with Grand Rapids when the club formed in 1996.

    Friday, November 13th/Saturday, November 14th 7:30PM @ St. John's IceCaps
Toronto's first trip out east to take on the Canadiens new affiliate! The games out there are always back-to-back to ease the travel burden.

Sunday, April 17th 3:00PM vs Rochester Americans
The final game of the regular season.
