Yesterday was probably one of the busier days in the hockey world since the dead period of the off-season. The Leafs played their third and final rookie tournament game in Laval, this one of course not being televised but we know they won 4-1.
Leaf rookies won their 'friendly' against the Habs this afternoon, 4-1. Goals by Sean Durzi, Ryan Moore, Giorgio Estephan and J.J. Piccinich.

Zach Bouthillier (I think) was the goalie, and seems to have acquitted himself well in a second straight game. We might have something in him. But there is an elephant in the room that has to be addressed before we go any further.
My friends I stand before you to tell a truth most dire. There lurks three traitors in our midst, who hath invoked our Katya’s ire. They don’t deserve no mercy, we ought to snark them with a pun. But I am not an evil man so first let’s have a little fun.
We’ll tie those scoundrels with a rope and make them super bored, by dragging them to the Senators ship... a terrifying, deadly trip. Keelhaul those filthy bloglubbers send them down to the minors below. Make those bastards sit and watch this Ottawa Senators video.
I will not say what they have done, their sins are far too grave to tell. It’s not my place to judge a man but for podcasting with another blog they surely now will burn in hell. The Sharks will dine upon their flesh and Gary Bettman will have their soul, now take their blogs and podcast gold, they won’t need them where they’re gonna go.
We’ll tie those scoundrels with a rope and make them super bored, then drag them to the Senators ship... a terrifying, deadly trip. Keelhaul those filthy bloglubbers send them down to the minors below. Make those bastards sit and watch this Ottawa Senators video.
Now go sit in a corner you three and think about loyalty and what you’ve done.

With the pre-season almost here, we see two things: first, a lot of the Leaf players are appearing in town with an exciting announcement!
Beards are suddenly in style with the #leafs. Morgan Rielly, Frederik Andersen, Nazem Kadri and John Tavares are among those to show up at today's team event with facial hair.

The second thing about the pre-season being close is a lot more PTOs are being announced these days...

But of course the big news of the day happened at 1 am yesterday:
The Canadiens have acquired forwards Tomas Tatar and Nick Suzuki, and a 2nd round pick in 2019 from the Vegas Golden Knights (Columbus’ pick previously acquired by Vegas), in return for Max Pacioretty. pic.twitter.com/HEt3uEXOo5

The gongshow that was the Max Pacioretty saga is finally over, which sees the Habs once again trading away one of their best players — and captain! — for perhaps a decent return considering the circumstance (except the circumstance was their own damn fault in the first place). More details:
Montreal retained 10% of Max Pacioretty's contract in the deal with Vegas. The Golden Knights retained 9.34% on Tomas Tatar -- giving the #habs a $500,000 AAV savings for the two seasons beyond this coming one.

And Pacioretty promptly signed an extension:
Max Pacioretty signs a four-year extension with #VGK at a $7M AAV. Deal kicks in staring next year.
