This past week Adam Brooks, Maple Leafs 2016 4th round draft pick, posted six points in two games. He a got one by doing this:

This kid is pretty good. Should he be in the WHL still? Brooks is scoring 2.27 points per game right now, totalling 25 points in the 11 WHL games he played this year, after being sent down at the end of Maple Leafs training camp. Now, he is an overage player, so posting 2 points per game against teens isn’t as impressive as doing it in your draft year, but it’s still above expectations for any player in the league. One of the last players to be cut by the Marlies, Brooks is now eleventh in the WHL scoring race, but keep in mind most of the players above him all have 8-10 more games played.

In a similar case to Jeremy Bracco (2PPG in the OHL), he’s performing as an overager should, but should he be in this league?

Looking through the below video from SEER video, you can see many examples of his hockey IQ; knowing where to send passes, reading player positions and getting the puck where it needs to be to set his teammates up for their goals.

Some, as always, will hold his size against him, but his coach doesn’t think that will hold him back as this quote from the Battle of Ontario podcast shows:

The size question mark is always going to be there with Adam at 5’10 and a listed 175 pounds. Does it hold him back in any significant way?

Paddock: No, I don’t think so. Not at this level, and I think he’s a smart player. He’ll figure out the game whatever level he goes onto play at. Size is something that we all still talk about in hockey, but really we’re talking about it in terms of: If everything is equal, you rather have the bigger guy. There are so many smaller stature players having an impact on games. Obviously the superstars in Kane and Johnny Gaudreau, but these small players, when given an opportunity, have really excelled. Tyler Johnson [as well] in the last two or three years. Size is what you make of it. He’s highly skilled, and it will be up to him to develop and challenge this next step to be a productive player.
