The hockey season is done, over, finished. All that’s left for the offseason is possible shenaniganry - or in the Leafs’ case, Shanahanery haha (sorry) - that has fans take to social media and frantically share their thoughts.
The Leafs are expected to lose a couple names once the calendar strikes July. Tyler Bozak, Leo Komarov, and James van Riemsdyk most likely played their last game for the blue and white. Additionally, there’s been a lot of talk on the possibility of Sheldon Keefe or D.J. Smith taking jobs with Lou on the island.
Keefe was named head coach of the Toronto Marlies back in June of 2015 leading the team to a Calder Cup Championship this season! It would make sense for him to make the jump to the NHL after claiming the AHL’s top prize. But that scenario can be thrown out the window now.
I’ll do my best to recreate what Rich Clune said at the Marlies Cup rally on Saturday in homage to Keefe’s future.
HE’S NOT LEAVING. THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO GET A WRECKING BALL TO GET HIM OUT OF THERE. THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE TO GET THE NATIONAL GAURD TO GET HIM OUT!!!

In all seriousness, Keefe told Sportsnet on Saturday that he expects to be head coach of the Marlies next season. However, ‘expect’, is a dangerous word at times. Winning in Toronto was great to watch and experience, but you never know what opportunities arise down the road.
As Mike Babcock likes to say, the truth today, may not be the truth tomorrow.
