Matthews has been having a great season so far - despite missing a large amount of time due to injury - he has 19 goals and 15 assists in 23 games. His status as tank target and first overall pick makes him an easy name to check off on an all star game ballot, and he was a team representative at the 2017 and 2018 games. Being named captain over other stars in the division like John Tavares, Mitch Marner, Morgan Rielly, and some guys from other teams is a big honor that will stick to Matthews resume for his entire career. Also, pad his wallet:

With Matthews added to the game that leaves 11 spots open on the Atlantic team and several more deserving Leafs players to view for a coveted spot. Remember, every team gets represented, even the Senators and Red Wings.
Marner, Tavares, Rielly, and Andersen should all be on the NHL’s list for potential spots on the team, but not all will get in. If you had to pick one, who would be your choice to represent the Leafs at the all star game?
Who else would you pick to go to the All Star Game?
John Tavares | 119 |
Morgan Rielly | 385 |
Mitch Marner | 408 |
Frederik Andersen | 64 |
Someone else! | 8 |
