The Maple Leafs started Saturday on a high after their decisive win against the Penguins on Thursday. That win was a statement after an embarrassing loss on Tuesday. Who knew that the Leafs could follow this all up with and embarrass themselves even more.
This loss was so bad it will be talked about for years. Seriously. And it was broadcast to the whole country on Hockey Night in Canada. This is a game where what happened will become the answer to bar trivia questions in the 2030’s.
The Hurricanes had to call in an emergency backup goalie on Saturday after both James Reimer and Petr Mrazek were injured by the second period. David Ayres is a 42 year-old zamboni driver. Despite two quick goals on him, the Hurricanes shut things down and he made enough stops to ensure them a 6-3 win (!) oh wait, no brackets needed there. THEY LOST TO THE HURRICANES WHO HAD SOME RANDOM 42 YEAR-OLD GUY IN NET.
Sheldon Keefe: "It's another embarrassing night. Embarrassing nights shock the system a little bit. We are a prideful team. I don't think today was a lack of work ethic or anything like that, today was just our execution; we couldn't connect on a pass."

It’s not even the EBUG that’s the big deal. That’s only the icing on the terrible cake. The Leafs were bad all around, and the third period was a disaster for them. Here’s our recap of last night’s game.

Y’all Leafs fans who missed the Carolina broadcast interview: Ayers was charming and lovely and said he’s about to go play practice goal with the Leafs tomorrow. He says he expects to get shot up pretty hard. #tmltalk
