Is this a sign that Kyle Dubas’ tenure with the Leafs is to be short-lived?
During tonight’s Senators - Penguins game, Elliotte Friedman reported in the intermission panel on Hockey Night in Canada that the Avalanche have asked the Leafs for permission to interview Dubas, and have received the go-ahead.
There were no further details about what type of position was on offer. Dubas has been Assistant General Manager in Toronto since the summer of 2014.
The Avalanche currently have Joe Sakic as de facto General Manger, although he is also a Vice President. They have two Assistant General Managers in Craig Billington and Chris MacFarland.
Today the Avalanche fired most of their assistant coaches, who were hired when Patrick Roy was still with the team. And while Sakic has received a vote of confidence from ownership, more changes on the league’s worst team seem to be in the works with this news.
Avalanche coaches Francois Allaire, Tim Army and Dave Farrish will not be returning next season.

For the Leafs, this may signal that the rumoured battle for preeminence between Dubas and Mark Hunter is trending Hunter’s way.
Update: This seems to imply a different timing than the live report did. The discussion may all be in the past.
On COL/Dubas, as mentioned on-air, not sure where it stands. But there were conversations. Question is: still a possibility or closed-off?
