Trades are fun. And with a trade freeze about to take effect at 3 p.m. tomorrow, the fun better get happening.
So far, by memory, we should be maybe, possibly, but not for sure, be seeing the following players moving:
- Alex Galchenyuk
- Matt Duchene
- Travis Hamonic
- Sami Vatanen
- Jonas Brodin
- Jordan Eberle
- Mark Pysyk
- Tyson Barrie
- Evander Kane
- Robin Lehner/
And that’s a lot of guys. Five of them are defencemen. And sure, this mostly makes sense. Colorado wants to trade Duchene for a defender and then Barrie for a forward, and I’m told that makes sense.
Alex Galchenyuk is no good and can’t play in his own end and isn’t a C, so they got Drouin, who can totally become a franchise centre. Makes sense.
And Travis Hamonic wants a trade off the Island. That does make sense. The Ducks want to trade Sami Vatanen, but I still think everyone is saying, “Yeah, but that other guy you got....”
Jonas Brodin has to go in Minnesota because they handcuffed themselves with contracts that are hilariously bad. Oh! I forgot Dion Phaneuf. Supposedly Ottawa is trading him now. Ottawa believes there is someone else dumb enough to take on that deal.
Jordan Eberle has to be traded because he’s not as good as that guy the Oilers used to have, Taylor something. Mark Pysyk just fits in with people’s fantasy trades, so they’ve decided Florida wants to move him. I’m not so sure. They might. They better hurry.
And the Buffalo twosome are a new GMs problem, and he likely wants to make that go away. I would.
So some of this makes sense, but someone, who has protection slots for the guy they just got, has to make up the other half of the deal and Colorado and Carolina can’t take all those guys. Who else has room right now?
Okay, who do you want off that list, anyway?
