The CWHL is hosting two You Can Play games on January 2nd. Toronto Furies will play the Brampton Thunder at home at 2:00pm and Les Canadiennes de Montreal will host the Boston Blades at 5:30. The first game between the Furies and Thunder will be broadcast nationally on Sportsnet.
You Can Play is an organization, created in 2012, dedicated to fighting homophobia in sports. The CWHL became the first league to partner with You Can Play later that same year.
From the CWHL's press release:
"We are truly excited to be taking the next steps in supporting the amazing work that You Can Play has done in recent years," says CWHL commissioner Brenda Andress. "The CWHL is a truly diverse league and we are committed to celebrating the individuality of each and everyone of our athletes, staff and fans."
Through these games and the CWHL’s continued partnership with YCP, the league hopes to not only mobilise its players, coaches and administrators to support this movement, but with the help of the league’s passionate fans, create safe and welcoming spaces in the CWHL arenas and across the wider hockey community.
