I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.
-Oscar Wilde
I'm a competitive person. I like to win arguments. I like to win hockey games. I like to win video games, board games, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I think my Leaf fandom plays off that competitive streak to a significant extent. Not only do I want the Toronto Maple Leafs to win, but I want them to dominate every game. And because of my competitive nature, the current state of the Leafs is pretty soul-crushing. I get the sense that many of you feel the same way. At the moment, there is very little to be hopeful about. It can be tough at times to think about the future, especially when you're competitive. You want to win every time out. But long-time PPP member (and one of my predecessors) Blurr1974 made an excellent point yesterday: while things do not look good right now, this team does have a future. The Leafs currently have a top 10 scorer in both the OHL and the WHL, along with several good young defenders and a solid group of goaltending prospects. We may not be stocked with the guys who make the frontpage of TSN's draft website or the Canadian Junior team, but there is help on the way. Just not today. As hard as it may be to grasp, even for me, it will get better.
