As we approach the NHL All Star Game we should review the standings for the NHL draft. These are not the standings I wanted to watch right now coming into the season, but it's where we are, and it's what we'll do.

Team | Points | Games left | % at 1st | +/- |
Minnesota Wild | 55 | 33 | 1.0% | NR |
New Jersey Devils | 55 | 32 | 2.0% | NR |
Carolina Hurricanes | 54 | 31 | 2.5% | +3 |
Montreal Canadiens | 52 | 32 | 3.0% | NR |
Ottawa Senators | 52 | 32 | 3.5% | -3 |
Anaheim Ducks | 51 | 35 | 5.0% | -1 |
Vancouver Canucks | 51 | 32 | 6.0% | NR |
Philadelphia Flyers | 50 | 35 | 6.5% | -3 |
Winnipeg Jets* | 47 | 33 | 7.5% | -1 |
Calgary Flames | 45 | 34 | 8.5% | NC |
Buffalo Sabres | 44 | 32 | 9.5% | +2 |
Toronto Maple Leafs | 43 | 34 | 11.5% | -1 |
Edmonton Oilers | 43 | 32 | 13.5% | -1 |
Columbus Blue Jackets | 43 | 31 | 20% | NC |
The bottom four is made up of the same teams from the last time we checked in, but Buffalo is climbing out. Calgary as well not moving from it's spot. Philadelphia, Anaheim, Winnipeg, and Ottawa dropped in the standings, but improved their odds. Carolina climbed up the standings, and made their odds worse.
Tampa Bay, Colorado, Pittsburgh and San Jose are all off the chart as they move into their respective playoff seeding, and Vancouver, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Montreal take their spots. Vancouver is the lowest ranked team that can leave this list, as they are only 2 points out of a Pacific division spot..
This is also the first lottery with all Canadian teams involved since the 2005 draft lottery, after all 30 NHL teams voted to CANCEL AN ENTIRE SEASON. But I'm not holding onto anger about that. Montreal had the highest draft pick that year and chose Carey Price 5th overall. Not a bad consolation prize for losing out on Crosby. Oddly enough the Maple Leafs drafted 21st overall and chose Andrew Raycroft.
Reminder: We want the Penguins to make the playoffs, as the Leafs get their first rounder if they do. If not it's bumped to 2017.
