Today’s Aftonbladet reports that the Swedish National team, Tre Kronor, has been in contact with William Nylander about joining the team for World Championships.
The national coach Rikard Grönborg confirm that they have been in contact with William Nylander who has already carried out an 'exit interview' with the NHL club, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and will undergo a medical tomorrow before he can bring the World Cup answer to Tre Kronor .
Grönborg also notes that Nylander is excellent on the power play (we’d noticed that too) and he may consider him for one of the power play units.
Tre Kronor plays Thursday in Stockholm with most of the 15 NHL players already signed on to the team on the roster. The preliminary roster of 17 players is not due until two days before the start of the tournament on May 5, and the team is likely to leave spots open in case there are second round exits that provide more talent.
Hockey Sverige spoke to Nylander and he had this to say about playing at Worlds:
Yes, of course it would be great fun and play. But I will take the decision after I've had a meeting with Toronto.
He said he has only texted with the Swedish team so far, but he will discuss things with them after he meets with the team. But when pressed if he will go if he is allowed to:
Yes, it is very possible, says Nylander with a big smile.
