In case you missed it, Jake McCabe left the game on Thursday with a lower body injury – thought to be a groin strain – and he is day-to-day.
Timothy Liljegren left last night's game with an upper body injury, and we likely won't have details on his status until Monday.
The Leafs play the Kings at home on Tuesday, Halloween, and they cannot recall another defender unless some is hurt so bad they have to go on LTIR. If both defenders are still out by gametime, there are two choices:
- Play 12F and 5D for one game which would allow a defender to be recalled under the emergency exception rules for the next game. No, last night doesn't count as playing short. You have to start the game short for it to count.
- Send down a forward – Pontus Holmberg is really the only option unless an attack of sense broke out and they were willing to waive Ryan Reaves – recall a defender or two and play 11F and 7D until there's someone ready to return.
Monday will likely reveal the status of everyone, and this may be a moot point. This time.
