Back in 2015, the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Stephen Desrocher in the sixth round, 155th overall. When they first selected him, the defenceman had put up 23 points over 66 games for the Oshawa Generals; in the following year, he ended up scoring 46 points over 69 games for both the Generals and Kingston Frontenacs.
Now 20 and in his final junior season, Desrocher has 25 points in 34 games - 15 of which came in December alone.
That’s definitely enough for the OHL to name him the Defenceman of the Month for December:
Desrocher led all defencemen with 15 points including two goals and 13 assists over 10 games as the Frontenacs played to a 5-1-4-0 record. The 6-foot-4, 206Ib. rearguard recorded points in all 10 of his December contests, registering four multi-point outputs.
Desrocher is third in Kingston scoring, behind just forwards Jason Robertson and the recently traded Warren Foegele. The next highest scoring defenceman on his team is Eemeli Rasanen, a draft-eligible giant Finn who has 15 points in 36 games.
Desrocher is 12th in overall OHL defenceman scoring, and with 114 shots on net, is the second-highest shooting defenceman in the league as well.
Also, El Seldo wants me to mention to all of you that he’s a jerk who beat the Niagara Ice Dogs on New Year’s Eve. Hopefully this helps make up for it!
