Today’s Picks
The Flyers fans went with a prospect from one of the hardest sources to judge: Junior-A. N
NHL Mock Draft 2019: Philadelphia Flyers select Alex Newhook with No. 11 pick - Broad Street Hockey
We add another dynamic offensive talent to the Flyers’ forward prospect ranks with our pick in the 2019 SBN NHL mock draft.
Newhook has been dominant for multiple seasons in the BCHL — which, in fairness, is exactly what a player worthy of being selected in the lottery range should be when going up against Canadian Junior-A competition, but he certainly has done it. Newhook is (well, will be when it eventually happens) the first BCHL player chosen in the first round since Colorado took Penticton’s Tyson Jost at No. 10 back in 2016, and we think he’s worthy of that perch.
Newhook is also from St. John’s originally, so he will have an entire province watching him no matter where he lands.
At twelfth, the Minnesota fans finally selected the man most early draft lists, and lot of recent ones too, had at third.
NHL Mock Draft 2019: Minnesota Wild select Vasili Podkolzin with the No. 12 pick - Hockey Wilderness
The 2019 NHL Entry Draft is just around the corner and as such, the 31 SB Nation NHL sites came together for a mock draft. In a grand yearly tradition, we play backseat General Manager for the...
Podkolzin is the real deal when it comes to talent and hockey IQ. This make sound like a typical excuse for a player who is simply big and brings intangibles that, when pressed, are virtually nonexistent. And true, at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Podkolzin is no slouch. And even more true, he certainly went through some serious cold streaks this past year, which may turn off some GMs to him come Draft Day in Vancouver.
There will be no new posts in the mock draft over the weekend, so we’ll have to wait for Tuesday of next week to review the picks 13 and 14. We’re getting into the area of the draft where there might be trades, so you never know who is going to be picking until they make them.
