Us

Auston Matthews got morning skate off for maintenance, but he will play. New lines are a try at "let's spread out the scoring". You have to do this every so often to see if it tastes better than last time. Like trying a Berliner Weisse again and discovering it really does taste like yoghurt.

We'll see how long this lasts.

The Game

This game is very important and is crucial, and more meaningful than the 65 that came before it, and if the Leafs don't win, then the next game will be very important and crucial and more meaningful than the 66 that came before it...

This is how it really works: The Leafs have a very consistent win/loss record over the 65 games to date. They aren't very likely to move off that .625 Points % very much. The first game of the season and the last and all the ones in between all matter in exactly the same way. "Playoff races" are to give us all something to talk about when the NHL news dries up in March. It really doesn't matter what order you get points in or against whom. Some ways are easier than others, but they aren't required.

I think the Leafs are most likely to come second in the Atlantic but it's going to be very close. Ottawa has almost certainly locked down a playoff spot. I would bet on Columbus for the other wildcard, but time will tell on that one.
