Detroit Red Wings @ Toronto Maple Leafs
07:00 PM at Scotiabank Arena
Watch on: SN, CBC, BSDET

This is the HNIC game, so it will be streamed on CBC GEM.

The Leafs last game was at home on April 11 against the New Jersey Devils, which Toronto lost by a score of 6-5 in regulation. The Leafs have a record of 46-24-9 for a 0.639 Points %.

The Detroit Red Wings last played away on April 11 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Red Wings lost by a score of 6-5 in overtime, and their current league record is 38-32-9 for a 0.538 Points %.

Them

The Red Wings last game is very significant, unlike the Leafs who are closer to being locked into their playoff spot.

By losing to the Penguins, while still gaining a point, Detroit sit one point back of Pittsburgh for the second wild card spot. They are definitely not out of the running, and once they get finished tonight, they play Montréal twice.

The Penguins play Boston, Nashville and finish against the Islanders, a game that has the potential to decide the Eastern Conference final standings.

Don't be fooled by this place Detroit has in the standings. They are dreadful. Detroit is 30th in Corsi %, 26th in Expected Goals %, and the only reason they have anything going on at five on five is a very high shooting percentage. Most of their skaters are shooting at over 10%. Their goaltending is mediocre, however.

They produce more on the power play, rendering them dead average there.

This team has no business in the playoffs, but that's how this season has gone.

Us

The Leafs are getting healthier with Timothy Liljegren practising yesterday. This morning was an optional skate, so the lines from yesterday will have to do with the added information that Max Domi is in and that Ilya Lyubushkin is in for Joel Edmundson.

All player moves are about rest and dealing with minor injuries. There is no ranking system.

The Games

Also on tap today are the Women's Worlds semifinals.

USA plays Finland at 3 pm and Canada takes on Czechia at 7 pm. Both games are on TSN. The winners play for gold on Sunday at 5 pm, the losers play for bronze at 1 pm.

As for the Leafs, this is game number 100 or so playing against a team still hunting for a playoff spot. They should be used to it by now.
