On the defensive side, the Bruins aren't too shabby according to the NHL's top defensive players posted by James Mirtle, found through the Globe blog.
Defensemen Dennis Wideman and Andrew Ference rank in the top ten of defensive defensemen. Forwards Marco Sturm and Patrice Bergeron are in the top 20 in defensive forwards.
The Leafs are not only facing that barrage of top defensive players but also one of the top goalies in the NHL, Tim Thomas. He leads the NHL is save percentage (.945!!!) and goals against average (1.76!!!) so the Leafs have their work cut out for them on the offensive front. At least the Habs did them a favour:
Defenseman Andrew Ference, who hobbled off the ice after being hit by a slapshot from Andrei Markov during the second period on Thursday, is officially out of the lineup due to a broken tibia, announced Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli this evening.
I am actually going to tonight's game with a friend. The same one that started Tim Thomas on his path to stardom by calling him a weak goaltender. I got the tickets before I realized who they were playing because we had decided never to go see the Bruins in Toronto again and with good reason:
Traveling to the Air Canada Centre typically hasn't fazed the Bruins, who've earned at least a point in 10 of their 12 games in Toronto since the NHL's season-long lockout in 2004-05. They're 7-2-3 over that span, including a 3-0-1 mark last season.
There is no word of any lineup changes for the Leafs so I'll assume that he's going with the same lineup as the one that completed the western road trip.
