One last preseason game.

While we're here, a reminder of the schedule for this weekend: 23-man-maximum, cap-compliant rosters are due at 5 pm on Monday. Therefore a lot of players will hit the waiver wire today and Sunday.

Today's roster:

From the bottom up, this is the NHL tandem with some interesting choices on defence. Jake McCabe is day-to-day and not in the lineup, but neither is Timothy Liljegren. Phil Myers and Conor Timmins are in, and they are contesting, I think, for the #7 spot. At forward, that's the NHL lineup with only Nick Robertson, who has played a lot this preseason, and the day-to-day Calle Järnkrok missing.

In all that's 20 players with four soon to be all healthy absentees. Can you get 23 out that 24 to fit under the cap? Someone has to come off this roster in a cap move as well as a roster number move. And this group has Jani Hakanpää and Connor Dewar on LTIR, so eventually they will be ready to displace someone as well.

Maybe this isn't just a contest for the #7 spot, but a chance to show that Liljegren is surplus to requirements because just moving Myers and his league-minimum salary to the minors won't do the job.

Joe Woll will play the full game, and lineups should be available at game time.

The Guests

The Red Wings are here in some capacity for their rematch.

Is Justin Holl the most experienced player there?

The Game

The defence contest is a fun one to consider, although it's hard to really judge a player with the experience of Myers or the unrefined puck skills of Timmins against a team a level below.
