Ilya Sorokin, Nikita Zaitsev and Sergei Mozyakin sort out their Golden Helmet awards at the KHL awards ceremony.
The KHL Awards were held yesterday, and each year a team of all-stars, the best at each position are selected by a ballot of the head coaches. This year the winners were:
The chosen few for the VIII season were: goaltender Ilya Sorokin (CSKA), defensemen Nikita Zaitsev (CSKA) and Chris Lee (Metallurg Magnitogorsk), plus forwards Alexander Radulov (CSKA), Sergey Mozyakin (Metallurg Magnitogorsk) and Jan Kovar (Metallurg Magnitogorsk).
Mozyakin also won the Golden Stick award for best forward, one of the Gentlemen on Ice awards and was the top regular season scorer and playoff MVP.
The rookie of the year award went to Artyom Alyayev, a 21 year old undrafted defenceman who scored 23 points in 48 games for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. He's a lefty and is listed as 5'8". Time to start scouting for the next one. The Leafs already have Zaitsev and his questionable fashion sense locked up.
