The WJC is still going and Canada is not the only favourite to lose.

Because this was in overtime, USA got a point and Finland only got two. Because Canada lost to Latvia in overtime, the same holds true. This means that with the regularion win over Germany, Canada and USA are tied in points at seven each with their last game against each other tomorrow night. That game will decide who is first in the group. But wait! If Finland beats Latvia in regulation, they'll have eight points, and could come second knocking the loser of that New Year's Eve game down to third.

Tie-breakers could come into this, and the explanation is about 500 words, so let's not worry about that until we have to.

Meanwhile in the other group Czechia beat Slovakia and have quietly gone undefeated, winning three in regulation, with only their last game, also on New Year's Eve, against the undefeated Sweden to come. That game will decide one and two in the more polarized Group B.
