Instead of being paralyzed by their cap crunch, as teams very seldom are, the Oilers have added a forward rather than trading away all their players to match the offer sheets signed by Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg.

Vasily Podkolzin is a 23-year-old RW with a cap hit of $1 million this year and next. Acquiring him implies that either the Oilers aren't matching on Holloway, or they wish to trade some other forward to make their ultimate in-season cap situation more reasonable.

Late last night they started on easing the overall cap situation by moving Cody Ceci to the Sharks for Ty Emberson, a 24-year-old defender with one year of NHL games on the Sharks. Ceci has only one year on his $3.5 million contract, so forecasts that it was going to be extremely expensive to move him were a bit overstated, even though the Oilers are in need to sell mode, so the price goes up.

The Oilers have to match by Tuesday but they do not need to clear cap space before that.

Good article that takes what Brad Treliving said on the radio and covers what he could reasonably do in the next few weeks (nothing terribly exciting):

And that's enough for a Monday. The T25 is back today with number 17, a brand new member of the team.
