Maple Leafs prospect Mitch Marner has been named winner of the Sportsnet Player of the Year award by the Canadian Hockey League today.
The London Knights forward has had an amazing season, and his line with Christian Dvorak and Matthew Tkachuk has been called "the best the Memorial Cup has ever seen".
Marner scored 39 goals, had 77 assists for 116 points in 57 games with the London Knights this season, on top of 2 goals, 4 assists in 5 games at the World Junior Championships, 16 goals and 8 assists for 44 points in 18 games in the OHL playoffs.
The CHL Awards are being handed out tonight, on the off day between the semi-final and final games of the 2016 Memorial Cup. In the Memorial Cup tournament so far Marner has scored 2 goals, and 11 assists for 13 points in 3 games.
Marner can add this trophy to his case next to the Red Tilson Trophy for being the OHL's Most Outstanding Player, and the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award for being the OHL playoff MVP.
The final game of the Memorial Cup is tomorrow afternoon, May 29, at 4:30PM on all regional Sportsnet channels and features Mitch Marner and the London Knights vs Martins Dzierkals and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
