Mitch Marner is your NHL rookie of the month for January 2017. He follows Auston Matthews winning for December, and William Nylander winning the award for October. This is the first time an NHL team has seen three different players win this award.
In January Marner scored four goals, added 11 assists for 15 points in 13 games over the course of the month.
Marner’s rookie NHL season has been on of the best rookie seasons modern Maple Leafs fans have ever seen. In 48 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Marner has scored twelve goals, and 29 assists to put him just under a point per game with 41 points, as a 19 year old.
Marner will gladly accept this award and throw it onto the pile of his Scrooge McDuck like money bin for hockey trophies, as you can see from his Elite Prospects page:
After an amazing January Marner is set to keep chasing Peter Ihnacak’s record of 66 points. He only needs 15 more to beat it. The only question is which Leafs rookie will get there first.
