In Thursday’s game against the Lightning, Mitch Marner got a breakaway, was illegally impeded by Victor Hedman, who was going to get a penalty, or maybe even provoke a call for a penalty shot, when Mikhail Sergachev came in with the finishing blow:

Sergachev was assessed two minutes for an illegal hit to the head. At the time, Jon Cooper complained that Marner stayed on the ice for the power play after a head hit, which is frankly a valid question.
Marner on the Sergachev hit: "It's obviously something you don't want happening in games; Hopefully it gets out of the game but it's a fast-paced game out there. Stuff happens quickly."

Tavares on the Sergachev hit on Marner: "I didn't like it at all. I thought Mitchy was pretty exposed and no way to really protect himself. I just didn't like it at all, he hit him right in the head."

We’ll likely hear back on this quickly, as Player Safety has been doing phone hearings the same day.
