Today, Brad Treliving announced that they have known for some time that goalie Matt Murray will require a surgery. He declined to be specific about it, calling it significant. The expected recovery time is long.
The Leafs will update his status after the surgery.
In other injury news, Jake Muzzin will not play this season. Bobby McMann is slightly injured and not ready for full participation, and Ty Voit and Braeden Kressler were injured in Traverse City.
Update: some clarification on Murray in response to questions indicated there was a re-aggravation of an existing problem this offseason. Treliving did not absolutely rule out Murray returning to action, but said the rehab is months not weeks.
