The Leafs have put Matt Lashoff on re-entry waivers. After the trade deadline waivers get a little weird. If claimed by another team Matt Lashoff would be unable to play for them until next season. He's an RFA in July. If another team claimed him they would be unable to trade Lashoff or assign him to the AHL until the playoffs began.

CBA Article 13.12:

(j) A Player may be Loaned to a club of any league affiliated with the League
at any time up to 3:00 p.m. New York time of the fortieth (40th) day immediately
preceding the final day of the Regular Season (the "Trade Deadline"). Following this
period only the Player or Players who have been Recalled during such restricted period
under Article 13.12(l) or 13.12(m) may be Loaned back to the member club of the
affiliated league from which they were Recalled.

(k) A Player who has been Loaned to a club of any league affiliated with the
NHL may be Recalled at any time subject to the provisions of Articles 13.12(l) and
13.12(m).

(l) During the period following 3:00 p.m. New York time of the fortieth (40th)
day immediately preceding the final day of the Regular Season no Player may be
Recalled from Loan to a club of any league affiliated with the NHL, except that:

(i) A Club may exercise four Recalls from a club or clubs of any
league affiliated with the NHL, of Player(s) listed on its own
Reserve List.

(ii) Players may be Recalled under Article 13.12(m). (ed note: this is an emergency recall)

(iii) Players may be Recalled upon completion of the regular season
and playoff schedule of the club to which they were Loaned.

What this means is that a team would need to want Matt Lashoff badly enough to spend a roster spot on him for the rest of the year for the chance to lock him up before he becomes an RFA on July 1st. This is pretty unlikely from where I'm sitting although with the NHL you never know who's going to do something irrational.

I read the entire post and think that Matt Lashoff:

Will get claimed on waivers because someone wants his RFA rights57
Will not get claimed on waivers because a team has almost nothing to gain392
