The Toronto Marlies are off to an excellent start in their 2015-2016 campaign and last night's 8-2 win over the Rochester Americans saw them at their best.
Through five games, the Marlies hold a record of 4-1 with 21 goals for and 12 goals against. Last night's 8-2 win saw every player on the roster except Sam Carrick and Rinat Valiev find the scoresheet.
Nikita Soshnikov, referred to as the best player for either team by head coach Sheldon Keefe following the game, picked up one goal and one assist for his first two points of his AHL career.
Frank Corrado, sent to the AHL on a conditioning stint after being acquired off waivers from the Vancouver Canucks, also picked up an assist in his Marlies debut.
William Nylander, with a post-in goal, remains the Marlies' leading scorer with six points (3G, 3A) in five games. Nylander played alongside Connor Brown and Kasperi Kapanen in their first game as linemates, and the trio picked up four points.
But the highlight of the night went to Kapanen, who danced through the middle of the ice and fired a perfect shot under the crossbar for his second goal in three games with the Marlies after getting sick to start the season.
