Minor-league transaction: NYI trades Matt Lorito to TOR for Jordan Schmaltz.

The Maple Leafs, made an AHL trade that was finalized late.
They swapped defender Jordan Schmaltz for forward Matt Lorito. Lorito has played only two NHL games, and that was years ago, but is a good scoring forward in the AHL.
He is almost 30, and is the prototypical Leafs 5’9” winger. He is on an NHL contract that expires this summer at an AAV of $675,000.
Schmaltz, 26 and on a similar deal never received a call-up to the NHL this year and played 37 games on the Marlies. We should assume Calle Rosen will take his spot over. Kevin Gravel is also healthy again, and playing.
The total efforts of the Leafs leading into the deadline that affected the Marlies were promising on the whole as they added some help up front and received a quality top-pairing defender in Rosen.
Also, I assume Kyle Dubas just wanted to chat with Lou Lamoriello.
