This does not solve the long term problem of too many players and too much salary once everyone is healthy.
To clarify the bonuses on Pacioretty's deal which are reported to come at 10 games and 35 games and $313,115 each time: Bonuses count against the cap when they are earned, however there is a "bonus cushion" in play in-season, that allows a team to not apply them against that year's cap and then ultimately roll them into the next season. This is not ideal, and it's not a given, if there is space, the bonuses can be paid out this year.
