Stolarz is 30, and is from New Jersey. He is 6'6" and is listed at 240lbs. He is coming off a one-year deal for $1.1 million, his highest pay to that point.
You should be happy with Stolarz as a backup, not really a tandem partner as long as Joe Woll plays well and isn't injured. Stolarz has been extraordinarily good in Florida, and his performance there has not been characteristic of his prior career.
For goalies who played regularly in the NHL last season, he has the highest difference between his actual save percentage an the expected save percentage based on the number and type of shots he faced. In 2022-2023, he was 32nd, and played a lot less.
He's never had a season even close to this year, so the expectation should be he will naturally regress back to his normal levels. Those normal levels are good, and he routinely saves more than expected – just not a league-leading levels.
