The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Dmitry (Dimitri) Ovchinnikov with the 137th overall pick in the 2020 draft. He is forward, listed at 5’10” and 161 lbs, and was ranked by a few outlets in the 100+ area for this draft.
We’ve acquired the 137th overall pick from Florida in exchange for the 153rd and 212th selections in this year’s #NHLDraft.#LeafsForever

Ovchinnikov plays for the junior team in the Sibir Novosibirsk club in Russia, which is in the east of the country and not always visited by scouts. He’s from Chita, the home town of long ago Leafs pick Nikolai Chebykin, so the Leafs have ventured that far before.
He had just over one point per game in the MHL (junior league) last year, and well, why not?
