Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Winnipeg Jets 7:30 p.m.
Watch on: Sportsnet (Wednesday national game - no blackouts)
Opponent’s site: Arctic Ice Hockey
The Leafs play the Jets twice a season, and the first round was less than a week ago on January 2nd when they defeated the Jets 6-3.
One remark which stood out to me at the time was Katya asking “Why does Paul Maurice still have a job?” but, counterpoint, why does John Hynes still have a job? They love those old school coaches.

Yesterday’s practice was a split practice which got the media all excited for some reason.
#Leafs doing a split practice today focused on individual skill work. Defence on one pad with Barb Underhill, forwards and goalies on the other.

An interesting choice.
Some worked on defence with Barb Underhill and some worked on offence. Sheldon Keefe explained the idea that practice is sometimes like a University lecture by the prof in the gigantic hall with all of the students, but sometimes it’s about breaking out into small group tutorials where the grad students walk you through the finer details of a sub-topic which the prof doesn’t have time for in the general lecture.
Let’s hope defending was one of those tutorials. And let's hope that the grad student wasn't on their 50th hour of tutorials that week.
Winnipeg Jets Lines
(based on their last game)
Forwards
Kyle Connor - Mark Scheifele - Patrik Laine
Nikolaj Ehlers - Blake Wheeler - Jack Roslovic
Gabriel Bourque - Adam Lowry - Mathieu Perreault
Jansen Harkins - Nick Shore - Mason Appleton
Defense
Josh Morrissey - Tucker Poolman
Luca Sbisa - Neal Pionk
Anthony Bitetto - Sami Niku
Goalies
Connor Hellebuyck
Laurent Brossoit
Sami Niku is the guy with 3 foot long hair. Tucker Poolman is the guy who comes to clean out the leaves in your backyard pool in October, says that he doesn’t know anything about stuff missing from your garden shed, and requests that you pay him with either weed or a cheque payable to “Cash.” He says he's 17, but he looks 26.
Will the Jets start on time?
Of course not. The train from Winnipeg is always late. | 28 |
They’ll start on that weird central time zone no one lives in. | 57 |
It doesn’t matter. The Leafs always start on time now. | 79 |
