Buffalo loves hockey. It has an NHL team, a Junior A team, and a Junior B team, and lots of teams below those levels. Now, the NHL team isn’t that great, but they try. Lucky for them there’s the Junior B Buffalo Regals in town to keep the Sabres from being the hockey laughing stock (except when the billionaire owners charge admission for development camp games).
The Regals have not been good this year, routinely losing games by margins of 20 goals or more. The Regals play in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, a Junior B circuit and are in the division with the teams from Niagara/Hamilton. The playoffs have begun (Go Falcons!), and the Regals are mercifully not included.
Up until last night the Regals were the most embarrassing part of Buffalo hockey.
Welcome back to the spotlight Andrew Peters!
If you don’t remember, Andrew Peters was a goon for the Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils in the 2000’s and wanted to fight Steve Dangle last summer at the draft.
Here is his Hockey DB page in all it’s glory.
Seven career NHL points. Peters is now a radio host who loves to play the “have you played the game” card, even though he clearly has barely done it himself.
He also coaches (or will it soon be coached) the UNDER 15 Buffalo Junior Sabres. Last night there was a brawl on the ice, and one of the opposing players Darcy Tucker’d the Jr Sabres bench. Well, Andrew Peters had a flashback to his NHL days a socked the kid, in and UNDER 15 LEAGUE remember, for old times sake.
At the 17 second mark he makes his move.
On a player in an UNDER 15 LEAGUE.
The Buffalo News reports that Buffalo police are looking into the incident, and we all know how hard they investigate crimes committed by hockey players.
What a night!
