Leaks of names on or off the clean list hint at who will make up the Russian Olympic roster
Recognizing those leaks, the Russian Hockey Federation has released the full list of players who may be chosen for the hockey team. They still plan to release the actual roster on Thursday.
Leafs prospect Yegor Korshkov is on the list. Korshkov was taken 31st overall by the Leafs in 2016.
He has played on and off on the so-called Russian B team or Olympic roster through last summer and this season. This is usually a development roster for young, up-and-coming players. With the restrictions of who Russia can invite, and the lack of NHL players, the team is likely to be younger than usual. This opens up opportunities for players like Korshkov.
As a regular roster player in the KHL on a good team, he’s not an off the board choice either. But he can’t be considered a lock in a long list of names (there are six goalies included):
Sergei Andronov, Alexander Barabanov, Anton Burdasov, Vyacheslav Voynov, Vladislav Gavrikov, Nikita Gusev, Mikhail Grigorenko, Pavel Datsyuk, Vasily Demchenko, Artyom Zub, Andrei Zubarev, Sergei Kalinin, Kirill Kaprizov, Bogdan Kiselevich, Ilya Kovalchuk, Vasily Koshechkin, Ilya Kablukov, Evgeny Ketov, Pavel Kraskovsky, Yegor Korshkov, Roman Lyubimov, Ilya Lyubushkin, Alexei Marchenko, Sergei Mozyakin, Nikita Nesterov, Nikolai Prokhorkin, Yegor Rykov, Ilya Samsonov, Andrei Svetlakov, Ilya Sorokin, Viktor Tikhonov, Ivan Telegin, Vladimir Tkachyov, Nikita Tryamkin, Maxim Shalunov, Alexander Sharychenkov, Sergei Shirokov, Vadim Shipachyov, Sergei Shumakov, Igor Shestyorkin, Dinar Khafizullin, Yegor Yakovlev.
Also included is Korshkov’s linemate Pavel Kraskovsky, former Toronto Marlies player, Sergei Kalinin, former Leafs player, Alexei Marchenko, and Vladimir Tkachyov, the centre from Ak Bars that the Leafs looked longingly at for one summer.
If Korshkov makes the final cut, we’ll celebrate on Thursday.
