Wow. There sure was a lot of discussion last night. Here's another thread to capture any lingering thoughts about the game. Here are some quick hit thoughts on the game:
- The John Mitchell penalty that led to the first goal was an atrocious call. Brent Sutter fell over because he's weak.
- On the goal Ian White turns the wrong way and leave Eric Staal all alone to walk in on goal.
- But it sure would have been nice to see Jonas Gustavsson bail him out.
- The equaliser was a result of Lee Stempniak heading to the net. Too often of late rebounds have been shooting through the slot where no Leaf has been.
- The second goal was a great combination between Phil Kessel, Tyler Bozak, and then a great finish by Nikolai Kulemin.
- On the Canes' second Blake watches a stick-less Kostopolous and allows him to kick it to start the rush.
- Then Garnet Exelby slides to try to break up the pass which he doesn't do. Of course the guy closest to him pots the rebound off a scramble because Exelby is now completely out of the play.
- And it wouldn't be a Leafs game if the winner didn't come on the same shift that Niklas Hagman hit the cross bar.
- As a symptom of the Leafs' defensive problems, Luke Schenn's failure to have his had on a swivel lets Dwyer slide past him to tip in the winning goal.
- The Leafs managed to draw a late power play but it stinks so no harm no foul for the Canes.
