Scott Hartnell and the Flyers did just that last night in the city of brotherly love as the Leafs continued their amazing run of late with their second win in as many nights. That makes 6 wins, 1 loss, and 3 OT/SO losses in their last 10 games, good enough for the Leafs to be the 2nd hottest team in the East behind the 9-1-0 New Jersey Devils. The Leafs are doing all they can to make the Playoffs, unfortunately so are the Sabres and Hurricanes who played to a Carolina OT win last night where the magical third point made it's unwanted appearance. Seriously look at the muddled standing in both Conferences and realize how big of an impact the charity points has on them.
I don't like. For shits and giggles, here's what the current standings in the East would look like with a 3, 2, 1 point system. The Leafs would be in 9th instead of 10 and only 3 points back from 7th place instead of 3 back from 8th with the Sabres in the way. It would also screw over Montreal and their league leading 13 overtime/shootout wins by taking away home-ice advantage in the playoffs. Anything that simultaneously helps the Leafs and hurts the Habs has to be good for the League right? I apparently can't read my own spreadsheet. Fuck you Tampa Bay!
