Just when you thought it was safe to start making Carey Price jokes, the Bruins go out and lose both of their final two games, meaning your Toronto Maple Leafs will face the big bad Boston Bruins in round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In what will surely be a series dominated by headlines concerning Brian Burke and Phil Kessel, the Leafs are in for a tough match-up. Toronto is 1-8-1 against Boston over the last two seasons. The only hope the Leafs have is #34, James Reimer. Reimer, hurt for a huge chunk of last season, is 4-4-1 with a .917 save percentage in his 9 career games against Boston. The Leafs will likely need even better results from Reimer if they want any chance of winning. Tuuka Rask, Boston's presumed #1, is 8-1 against the Leafs in his career with a .949 save percentage.
From an advanced stats perspective, Boston is 4th in the NHL in fenwick close. Toronto sits 29th. Make no mistake, Toronto might be the worst puck possession team in the NHL. They'll need to continue their run of good puck luck in addition to excellent goaltending from Reimer. That said, in a short series, anything can happen. Phil Kessel has been hot with 10 goals in the last 10 games, and Toronto is mostly healthy. What are the Leafs chances? How do you think the Leafs will fare?
