Brian Burke, President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Thursday that the hockey club has signed 2009 draft pick Kenny Ryan to a three-year entry level contract. - Toronto Maple Leafs
I'm going to be honest, I'm surprised this happened. Kenny Ryan was drafted 50th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry draft. He was committed to Boston College and shortly before their season began he backed out and went to the OHL's Windsor Spitfires where he generally failed to impress.
We talk a lot around here about how players who are PPG in the OHL after they're drafted (or the year after they should have been drafted) are a dime a dozen. Kenny Ryan wasn't one of them.
GP | G | A | Pts | NHLe G | NHLe A | NHLe Pts | |
2009-2010 | 52 | 14 | 21 | 35 | 5 | 7 | 12 |
2010-2011 | 63 | 22 | 38 | 60 | 5 | 8 | 13 |
This is a player who didn't show much and didn't progress much. I'm not terribly worried about the SPC since Burke finds a way to open them when he needs them so I'm not sure there's too much left to write here. Kenny Ryan projects to be a 4th liner if we're lucky.
